Mission Bay is just a 10 minute drive from Auckland CBD along the waters edge, and is well known for its gorgeous sandy beach and cafe attractions. Buses run every every 15 minutes from the city centre to Mission Bay.
It is approximately 45 minutes from the airport. Shuttle buses cost $47 for 1 person and $9.50 for a 2nd person. Taxis range from $70-80. Some accommodation suppliers also do airport pickups.
There are a number of accommodation options in the area. I only list places on this webpage that I have personally visited, seen the room, met the hosts and heard good client reviews about. I have discussed with each host what they can expect when having guests who are chronically ill and who are doing The Switch, so they are aware of your journey and how best to support you. Walking distances are all based on google calculations, though you may be faster or slower than these times.
Mission Bay – Atkin B&B
For the most affordable and close option, this little cottage is a 7 minute walk (550 metres) from the course and is only $50/night, including a beautiful breakfast. It’s a small south-facing room with a double bed, TV and desk and its own bathroom. The host is a lovely lady who will give you lifts to the course or Mission Bay cafes if you need it, and usually also offers $10 dinners if you want them. A second guest can stay for an extra $25/night. Contact email@example.com or 021 71 88 99.
Mission Bay – Nihill B&B
This lovely sunny guest room has views to Bastion Point and is $80/night including breakfast ($20 extra for a second person). It’s a 10 minute walk up the hill (800m) to the course and 600m to the beach and cafés. Guests have exclusive use of a bathroom (with a big bath!) and lounge room, and are welcome to use the kitchen. Dinner is also available for $15 (usually organic). The hosts are a really friendly couple who both believe in mind-body work. They’re happy to chat with you in evenings or give you space. Augusta is a massage therapist and yoga teacher, so you can book in a session for $80/hour while you are staying – what a nice way to pamper yourself during the course! When they are available, they are happy to drive guests to and from the course and Eastridge supermarket. Contact 09 282 5750 or Augusta on firstname.lastname@example.org or 02102522733, Andrew on email@example.com or 021821872.
Kohi Bed and Breakfast is located a 5 minute drive or a 19 minute walk (1.5 km) from the course venue and is a 5 minute walk to Kohimarama Beach with views to Waiheke Island. Rooms start from $130. This is a beautiful, upmarket B&B. The Hosts also do airport pickups ($70) and are happy to drive people to and from the course each day if required.
Aarangi Motel is located just 80m from Kohimarama Beach and is a 5 minute drive or 24 minute walk (1.9km) from the course venue. Their units are one bedroomed with open plan dining and lounge area, with WiFi and a guest laundry. Previous clients have commented that the hosts are very friendly. Airport pick ups are $55.
Terry and Cindy’s B&B
Terry and Cindy’s B&B is located a 20 minutes walk from the course venue with shops and cafes close by. The hosts are happy to pick you up from the airport ($40) and are happy to drive guests to the course if required. Their accommodation includes a self contained apartment with cooking facilities (double $140, single $120) and a queen room (double $120, single $100) per night including breakfast. The hosts are very supportive of my work.
